Comparative and Superlative Adjectives
🔹 Comparative Adjectives
Comparative adjectives show the difference between two things or people.
Structure:
Subject + verb + comparative adjective + than + object
How to use:

Use “-er” or “more” depending on the adjective.

Use “than” to compare two things.
✅ Examples:

This road is wider than that one.

My phone is cheaper than yours.

His car goes faster than mine.

She is more careful than her brother.
-
I like tea better than coffee. (irregular)
🔹 Superlative Adjectives
Superlative adjectives show that one thing is the most or least among a group.
Structure:
Subject + verb + the + superlative adjective + object
How to use:

Use “-est” or “most” depending on the adjective.

Use “the” before the superlative form.
✅ Examples:

This is the tallest building in the city.

That was the funniest movie I’ve seen.

She is the most talented singer in the group.

He is the least active member of the team.

This is the best book I’ve ever read. (irregular)
📘 Forming Comparatives and Superlatives
🔸 One-Syllable Adjectives

Rule: Double the final consonant if the word ends in consonant + vowel + consonant.
🔸 Two-Syllable Adjectives
If the word ends in “y”, change “y” to “i” and add -er/-est.

- Hari has lived in Kathmandu for 10 years but Bikram for 20 years. Bikram has lived more than Hari in Kathmandu.
- I used to study 12 hours a day but nowadays I study only 5 hours a day. I don’t study as much as I used to.
- It’s a very good room in our hotel. In fact, it’s the best one.
- He earns 30 thousand rupees a month but spends 40 thousand. He spends more than he earns.
