Barriers of communication are created when we receive incomplete messages. We can’t stop it but we can minimise it for better communication. Barriers lead towards misleading or misinformation. So, it is a threat for proper communication.
Barriers block or distort our message. It hampers the process of ‘encoding-sending-decoding’. This process is known as communication barriers. It is the responsibility of the organisation to minimise it.
Types of communication barriers:
Formula to Remember : P NTC =Remember it as Public NTC
a) Physical and Psychological Barriers
Physical barrier is caused by time and place. Physical distance of the sender and receiver is important factor for proper communication. Psychological Barrier is related with mood and attitudes of sender and receiver.
b) Cultural and Language Differences
If sender’s culture and language aren’t same, there is the possibility of communication barriers.
c) Noise and Emotions
Noise doesn’t allow proper communication. It is caused by the sound of chatting, talking, vehicles’ sound, etc. In the same way, if a receiver is not emotionally attached to the sender, he/she can’t catch the message.
d) Time Pressures
Time plays a vital role in communication. If there is not enough time, messages are presented partially. As a result, it creates communication
barriers.
