Ans: Runtu and The Narrator are close friends like Krishna and Sudama. Runtu belongs to lower class family like Sudama. The narrator belongs to upper class family like Krishna. Runtu treats the narrator as his master/lord like Sudama treated Krishna as his lord. In this way, I find the same kind of the friendship between two in the story.

Ans: There were no class gap between Runtu and The Narrator during their childhood time. They were in selfless friendship. They simply love each other and enjoy their company without considering their class differences.

Ans: It shows class differences of contemporary Chinese society. In the same way, peasant community suffered from economic exploitation of upper class people. Runtu is an example of contemporary Chinese society people. He suffered a lot from economic and social system of that time. His present pathetic condition is the result of that society.

Ans: The story is set in 1911. It captures the time during the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty in China. The geographical features of the narrator’s hometown is presented as gloomy. People are still suffering from the same pathetic condition like Runtu.
