📝 DV Lottery 2027: Eligible Countries for Form Fill-Up (Updated 2025)
🌍 What is the DV Lottery Program?
The U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Program lets citizens of eligible countries apply for a chance to live and work permanently in the United States. Each year the program offers up to 55,000 Diversity Visas. The U.S. Department of State excludes countries that have sent high numbers of immigrants to the United States in recent years.
🟢 Who can apply?
You can apply for the DV Lottery if both of the following are true:
-
✅ You were born in an eligible country, and
-
✅ You meet the education or work-experience requirement (usually a high school diploma or two years of qualifying work experience).
If your birth country is not eligible, you may qualify through your spouse’s or parents’ country of birth if they come from an eligible country.
🌐 Eligible regions and examples (DV-2027)
The eligibility list changes slightly each year. For DV-2027, most countries in these regions remain eligible:

North America: The Bahamas only.

🚫 Countries not eligible for DV-2027
The Department of State excludes countries with high U.S. immigration over the past five years. For DV-2027, notable ineligible countries include:
-
Asia: Bangladesh, China (mainland-born), India, Pakistan, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam
-
South America & Caribbean: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela
-
Africa: Nigeria
-
Europe & Oceania: No exclusions this year
📌 If you were born in an ineligible country, you cannot apply unless you qualify through a spouse’s or parent’s country of birth.
✍️ Important tips when filling the DV form
-
✅ Select your country of birth, not current citizenship or residence.
-
✅ If you’re married, check whether your spouse’s birth country is eligible — it can provide an alternative basis for entry.
-
✅ Double-check every field; a wrong country selection causes automatic disqualification.
-
✅ Use only the official U.S. government site: dvprogram.state.gov.
🟢 Final words
Checking country eligibility is the first and most important step before you submit a DV entry. One mistake on the country field can cancel your application. If you come from Nepal or another eligible country, apply early, fill the form accurately, and keep your confirmation number safe. Good luck!
