IELTS Speaking Sample Answers 2025: Band 9 Model Responses & Tips

Introduction

The IELTS Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with an examiner, lasting 11–14 minutes. It is divided into three parts:

  • Part 1 (Introduction & Interview) – Simple questions about yourself and familiar topics.

  • Part 2 (Cue Card) – A longer speech on a given topic (1–2 minutes).

  • Part 3 (Discussion) – Analytical questions related to Part 2.

Many test-takers struggle because they are unsure of how much detail to give, what vocabulary to use, or how to sound natural. Reviewing IELTS Speaking sample answers—especially Band 9 responses—can help you understand examiner expectations and practice effectively.

IELTS Speaking Part 1: Band 9 Sample Answers

Question: Do you enjoy cooking?
Answer (Band 9): Yes, I really enjoy cooking because it allows me to be creative. I often try new recipes from different cuisines, like Italian or Thai. Cooking also helps me relax after a busy day, and I feel satisfied when my family appreciates the food I prepare.

Question: Do you prefer using public transport or private vehicles?
Answer (Band 9): I prefer using public transport for daily commuting because it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. For example, I usually take the bus to work. However, for long trips with my family, I prefer private vehicles as they are more convenient and comfortable.

IELTS Speaking Part 2: Cue Card with Band 9 Answer

Describe a place you visited that you found very interesting. You should say:

  • Where it is

  • When you visited

  • What you did there

  • And explain why you found it interesting

Band 9 Sample Answer:
One of the most interesting places I have visited is Pokhara, a beautiful city in Nepal. I went there last year during my college vacation. I spent my time boating on Phewa Lake, visiting the Peace Pagoda, and enjoying the stunning view of the Himalayas.

What made it fascinating was the combination of natural beauty and cultural richness. The mountains looked breathtaking, especially during sunrise, and the local people were extremely welcoming. I found it interesting because it gave me both relaxation and adventure at the same time. I would love to visit Pokhara again.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Band 9 Sample Answers

Question: Why do you think people like to travel to different places?
Answer (Band 9): People travel for many reasons. Some do it to relax and escape from their daily routine, while others travel to learn about different cultures and traditions. Traveling also helps people broaden their perspectives by meeting new people and experiencing new lifestyles.

Question: Do you think technology has changed the way people travel?
Answer (Band 9): Definitely. Technology has made traveling much easier. For instance, people can book tickets online, use navigation apps for directions, and read online reviews before choosing hotels. Social media also inspires many people to explore new destinations. Overall, technology has made travel more accessible and convenient.
