Corona Says: Class 11 English

Answer the following questions.

Very Short Question Answer (5*2=10)

a. Who is the speaker in the poem?

Ans: Corona Virus is the speaker in the poem.

b. Who claim that they are superior to all?

Ans: Human Beings claim that they are superior to all.

c. Why has the speaker come to the Earth?

Ans: The speaker comes to the Earth to give a little rest to mother earth.

d. What positive changes have occurred on Earth after the speaker’s visit?

Ans: Positive changes are clean air, a dust-free environment and low pollution.

Reference to the context

a. What does the speaker mean when he says:

But have you ever counted How many have died so far Because of you and your wars?

Answer: The phrase seems to be a rhetorical question. It aimed at highlighting the consequences of wars. It suggests that the speaker is questioning whether the person being addressed has ever taken into account the number of casualties or deaths resulting from their involvement in wars or conflicts.

Explain the following:

a I will depart one day. But remember There’re many others like me. They’ll come too. If you d. on’t get rid of your inflated ego, You’ll be back to your cave time That you endured Long, l o n g, l o n g ago …

Ans: These lines are taken from the poem “Corona Says” by Vishnu S. Rai. Here, we see corona as the speaker talking about a man in today’s world. The speaker warns people about future circumstances. He said that one day he will leave this planet but if people don’t get rid of their high ego, other evils will come too. As a result, humanity will move into a cave again. This would be the worst-case scenario for humans.

b. What does the speaker mean in the following lines? Explain. The earth is not your property alone – It’s as much ours as yours.

Ans: Corona tells people that Mother Earth belongs to all species. But human beings are pretending to be superior beings. He claims that Earth belongs to all creatures.

Reference beyond the text

a. What human behaviors are responsible for the suffering in people’s lives?

Ans: The human behaviors that can contribute to suffering in people’s lives can vary widely, but some common examples include:

Self-destructive behavior:

Engaging in harmful habits such as drug addiction, excessive gambling, or self-harm can lead to significant distress in individuals’ lives. These behaviours often stem from underlying emotional or psychological problems.

Unhealthy relationship:

Toxic or abusive relationships, whether emotional, familial, or social, can cause great distress. These relationships may involve manipulation, control, emotional abuse or neglect.

Lack of empathy:

When individuals lack empathy and disregard the feelings and needs of others, it can lead to conflict, hostility, and hurt in interpersonal relationships. Greed and selfishness:

Prioritising personal gain and material wealth at the expense of others can contribute to inequality, exploitation, and suffering in society.

Prejudice and Discrimination:

Discrimination based on factors such as race, gender, religion or sexual orientation can result in marginalisation, exclusion and suffering for targeted individuals or groups.

Lack of communication or miscommunication:

Ineffective communication can lead to misunderstandings, conflict, and emotional distress, leading to damage in personal and professional relationships.

Inability to cope with stress or adversity:

When individuals lack healthy coping mechanisms or resilience, they may experience more distress during difficult life events such as loss, trauma, or major life transitions.

These are just a few examples, and the causes of suffering can be complex and multifaceted. It is important to note that an individual’s experiences of suffering can also be influenced by various external factors such as social structure, economic conditions or political system.

While I can’t provide specific links, you can explore more by researching related topics such as “Human Behaviour and Suffering” or “Psychological Factors Contributing to Depression.” suffering” on reputable websites, academic journals, or psychology-related sources.

b. How does an epidemic differ from a pandemic? Briefly explain the impact of Corona Virus on human life and environment.

Ans: Epidemic is the rapid spread of a disease within a particular community or region, while pandemic refers to a global outbreak of a disease affecting people in many countries or continents .

The impact of Corona virus (COVID-19) on human life is huge. It has caused illness and death in many countries, leading to widespread fear and anxiety. Governments have introduced measures such as blockades, travel restrictions and social distancing to control the spread of the virus. This has led to economic disruption, job losses and mental health problems. Health systems have been overwhelmed and the need for medical supplies and resources has increased.

In terms of the environment, the pandemic has had both positive and negative effects. Closures and travel restrictions have helped reduce air and water pollution in many areas. However, there has been an increase in medical waste and single-use plastics due to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and disposables. The long-term effects on the environment are still uncertain.
